Working Together Builds Faith and Friendships

Youth Introduction

Middle and Senior High Youth Groups create opportunities for students to experience fellowship, mission opportunities, retreats, music and Christian education designed to motivate and inspire real faith. To that end, we are currently in the process of hiring a new, full-time Director of Youth Ministries.

Fellowship Activities
Youth Groups
Throughout the school year, Middle School Youth Group meets each Wednesday from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. The High School Youth Group meets on Sunday evenings, 7:00 to 8:30 p.m.

Retreats
Mound Ridge Retreat Center on the lower Meramec River near Steelville, MO is a wonderful place for the youth groups to gather for a weekend. These themed retreats provide time away from the daily flow of life in order to create sacred space for fellowship and reflection.

Team Building Activities
During mission trips, retreats and youth groups meetings, the youth members often take part in team-building activities. Events such as rope courses, zip lines, rock climbing, trust and word games, sports activities, music development, relays and group discussions help to develop problem solving and relationship building skills.

Leadership Development
From fund raising to volunteering during Vacation Bible Camp, the youth have ample opportunities to develop leadership skills that will be with them as they enter college.

Work Camp
The High School Youth Group has a long tradition of two week mission trips each summer to places in need all over the United States. The purpose is to partner with people in their local communities. Recent trips have included Santa Fe, NM; Gilbert, WV; and Benton Harbor, MI. 9th through 12th graders are eligible to go on the trip. Throughout the year, a variety of fundraisers are held to defer the cost of the trip for the students and also to provide supplies: an all-church Pancake Breakfast, Super Bowl Sub Sandwiches Sale, a wonderful Silent Auction with Dessert and a Talent Show. The congregation also participates through a share sale. After the mission trip, the team provides an appreciation dinner complete with video and personal stories from the youth about their mission experience.

Quest Confirmation Class
Each year, ninth graders and their parents are invited to participate in a Confirmation Program called Quest - a class designed to provide a beginning to the journey of what it means to be a vital part of a community of faith and to call oneself 'Christian.' Quest covers the basics of the Christian faith in the Reformed tradition; an understanding of what it means to be Presbyterian, and the privileges and responsibilities of being an active member of the church. Quest is typically held from September to January.

Sunday School
Middle and High School Sunday School is offered from 10:00 to 10:50 a.m. each Sunday morning. The curriculum is based off of the "Seasons of the Spirit," yet enhanced by each teachers unique experience. The curriculum follows the liturgical calendar, with Scripture readings and discussions pertinent to the story under consideration and the actual events in the lives of the youth.
