“World Religions - a Global View” 

September 7, 14, 21, and 28 

Dr. David Oughton,  author and teacher of Religion at Christian Brothers College High School and Meramec Community College, will lead a four-week series on World Religions.  He will share the particulars of four world religions, including Buddhism and Hinduism, as well as an overview of similarities and differences with our own faith traditions--Christianity and Judaism. 

 

Great Heroes of Jewish Folklore” 

October 5, 12, 19 and 26 

Dr. Howard Schwartz of UMSL returns to discuss the stories of the beloved personalities of Jewish folk tradition--from King Solomon, who was said to know the languages of the birds, the animals and the wind, to Rabbi Nachman (19th century), known as the greatest Jewish storyteller of all time. 

 

A Fresh Look At The Sermon on the Mount” 

November 2, 9, 16 and 23 

Dr. Richard Schebera,  Professor Emeritus of the Department of Theological Studies at St. Louis University has devoted much time and study to interfaith dialog and will examine this passage with awareness of its Jewish roots. 

 

When We Say Jesus - What Do We Mean and Who Are We Talking About?” 

November 30, December 7, 14, 21 

Dr. Frank Flinn, adjunct professor of religious studies at Washington University, will explore these questions: "Who did Jesus think Jesus was?  Who do we think Jesus is?" and how these perspectives shape our faith and our world view.

This study led by Mike Holley will offer an overall  approach to  looking at the scriptures?providing a framework  that shows us how the sixty-six books of the Bible reflect four major themes: God is with us, God cares for the least as well as the mighty, God loves us and God is  mysterious and greater than our minds can describe or fully comprehend.

Our on-going  series on Presbyterianism will cover new ground, looking at topics such as: connecting our creeds with the sacraments; understanding the events at the 2008 General Assembly; what we believe; what others believe; and comparing and contrasting our beliefs with those of other traditions.

This study of scripture and other spiritual writings is for those seeking an opportunity to read and share how we can live our daily lives more faithfully and more closely in union with the divine. 

 

Quest Class for Parents ~ Room 007 

Held in conjunction with the confirmation class for our youth,  parents meet together to explore aspects of faith and parenting covering a variety of topics.

Getting Connected - For those interested in joining the church or learning more about the Reformed and Presbyterian traditions, Getting Connected offers the right mix of information and fellowship. You'll learn about our Presbyterian heritage and the unique way we make decisions; the essential tenants of the Reformed faith; and the only requirement for membership in the Presbyterian Church (USA). You'll also meet wonderful people who are responding to God's call for them to become a part of a growing, vibrant, thriving faith community. Each Getting Connected Class consists of three consecutive meetings, usually on Sunday or Monday nights. Childcare is available upon request.
